LYME Regis was once again engulfed in Olympic fever as the popular Lyme Lympics returned to the beach front for its second year.
Competitors entertained the crowds in both the adults and children’s events, ranging from tug of wars to blindfolded wheelbarrow racing.
Organisers decided to put the event on again following its success last year and to round off the summer season’s festivals.
Hugh Dunford-Wood, chief organiser, said: “It has been great fun, absolutely brilliant.
“Everybody had really good fun and many people came to me at the end with really nice feedback. There were two children at the end badgering their parents to come back again next year, as it had been the best holiday ever.
“That is what this event is all about – to provide holidaymakers and locals with something to do after spending the day on the beach and hearing people say how good it was makes it all worth it.”
The evening of events kicked off with a children’s tug of war.
Swiftly following that was the egg throwing, before the popular waiters’ race as blindfolded contestants ran into the sea to fill up their jugs. Next was the skateboard mackerel relay followed by the Old Fossils Mobility Scooter race.
Then the children had to work together to finish first in the six legged race, before the adults’ eight legged race on skis, which was won by workers from Aroma Cafe.
John Kellas, manager of Aroma Cafe said: “It was a really good evening and was incredibly funny.
“I had to close the cafe a little bit early and take a hit on takings, but the staff love the event and it’s great for us all to take part. Winning the eight legged race was definitely one of the highlights of my life.”
