MOSTERTON Pre-school is overjoyed to have been ‘marked up’ by Ofsted upgrading from a ‘satisfactory’ to ‘good’ rating.

The Ofsted inspector said the children benefited from exciting and well planned outdoor environments and developed independence, self confidence and a pride in their own achievements.

Emma House, chairman of the Mosterton Pre-school committee, said everyone was delighted with the report.

She said: “This inspection has shown the amount of hard work and commitment the staff and the committee have put into the pre-school since their last inspection.”

Some minor criticism denied the pre-school ‘outstanding’ status, with the report adding that ‘on occasions, not all children have sufficient resources to support their exploration of combining materials’.

The report suggested staff and committee members should consider ways to encourage all parents to contribute information about what their children do at home.

The pre-school has been running from Mosterton village hall since 1981, and currently caters to some 23 children in the early years age group. During term time it is open on week days from 9am until noon, with a lunch club offered from noon until 12.45pm.

The committee is now looking into funding for its own premises so they can move on to offering full time care for all children aged two to five years.

Recently a fundraising skydive from 15,000ft raised more than £1000, to be split equally between the pre-school’s new building fund and the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

This was one of several fundraising events taking place throughout the year, including the children’s annual trike ride at Parrett and Axe school which raised a further £300, and a jumble sale to be held on Sunday, November 24 this year.

The committee is also welcoming a new deputy manager, Lea Tuck, to help further improve the standards of the pre-school.

Spaces are available from September and two-year-old funded children are also accepted.
