THE town of Lyme Regis has received a right royal letter of thanks for its good wishes on the birth of Prince George.

Town Mayor Coun Sally Holman sent a letter to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on behalf of town councillors and the people of Lyme Regis congratulating them on the birth of their son on July 22.

Now she has received a letter of thanks from Kensington Palace from the Duchess’s private secretary Rebecca Deacon.

Miss Deacon says in the letter: “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have asked me to write and thank you very much for the kind letter you sent on behalf of the councillors and people of Lyme Regis to their royal highnesses on the occasion of the birth of their son, Prince George.

“Their royal highnesses have been overwhelmed by the incredibly kind messages they have received and the royal couple, their parents and families are so thrilled at this special time. The Duke and Duchess would have me send you their warmest thanks and best wishes.”

Coun Holman said she was delighted to receive the letter of thanks from the Duke and Duchess.

She said: “I, along with most of the country, was incredibly excited when Prince George was born and sent the letter of congratulations off in the excitement and had forgotten about it.

“I was pleasantly surprised when I received the letter, and it is always an honour to get the letter with the official stamp on it.

“It was very nice to hear from them, especially given it must be a very busy and a very stressful time for them all.

“They look such a lovely family, and I loved the pictures the family released of the Duke and Duchess with Prince George and their dog Lupo, it’s such a lovely picture.”

Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge, third in line to the throne, was born on Monday, July 22, at 4.24pm at St Mary’s hospital in London, and was presented to the world the following day.

Crowds had gathered in Lyme Regis as Town Crier Alan Vian made proclamations in honour of the newborn Prince at the Guildhall steps, Bell Cliff and the Three Cups hotel steps.

He sent loyal greetings to the family and proclaimed: “May God bless the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and may God save the Queen.”
