THERE are so many attractions at this year’s Melplash Show the crowds will have plenty to keep them occupied tomorrow.
The main ring headliner is the Bolddog Lings Freestyle Motorcycle Team.
The team has a reputation for its death defying tricks - their riders include Dan Whitby, the UK’s first rider to backflip a four stroke motocross bike.
For fans of the heavy horse the famous Randy Hiscock, the Dorset farmer who trains and breeds Suffolk Punches.
Mr Hiscock was on our screens training Martin Clunes’ young Cyldesdales Ronnie and Bruce for Mr Clunes’ latest TV programme on working horses.
Mr Hiscock will be organising the display of agricultural and trade heavy horse turnouts.
Entries for livestock are up and there are more than 300 trade stands and the ever-popular countryside arena, food hall, by-the-sea and craft marquees and cookery demonstrations remain as popular as ever.
This year the new Melplash Agricultural Society president is Cleeves Palmer who is the fourth member of his family to hold he office.
It is, he says, a tremendous honour.
He said: “The Melplash Agricultural Society, and in particular the Melplash Show, has meant a great deal to me throughout my life.
“Farming is vital to the area and it is incredibly important that the society continues to promote what we do here in West Dorset for the local community and beyond.
“Our annual show is a wonderful opportunity for bringing town and country together and I look forward to being even more involved in 2013.”
Mr Palmer took over from Lady Caroline Sandwich after her year in office.
Dan Newman from Chantmarle continues as chairman in the two-year role.
He said: “It is the continued support of the society’s members and the dedication and loyalty of the many volunteers who give up their time that keeps the society’s traditions alive and developing for the future.”
