THE poor weather couldn’t rain on their parade, as jubilant students received their A and AS level results at Woodroffe School in Lyme Regis.

The school once again performed well with an overall pass rate of 97 per cent, with 42 percent of students gaining an A*, A or B.

Headteacher Dr Steward said: “As ever, this is a very impressive set of results and I am delighted that so many of our students have done so well. I am particularly pleased that the vast majority have secured places at the universities of their choice and I wish them every success in the future.

“A-level students work incredibly hard nowadays and, though it is fashionable to assume that standards have declined, the amount of work sixth formers now have to do has made gaining qualifications at this level in many ways much harder that it used to be.

“The hard work of A-levels students should not be underestimated, nor should we forget the added pressures caused by the demands of the university system and the increasing competition for places.

Head of sixth form Jim Thomas added: “Overall I am very pleased with this set of excellent results. It reflects the hard work these students have put in over the past couple of years. Students have a lot of pressure on them to do well so I am delighted for them all.”

Sixth form students headed to the school at 10am today to collect their results after two years of hard work.

Head Girl Scarlett Down achieved some excellent results, getting three A*’s in art, history of art and English, plus an A in geography.

Scarlett is taking a year out from her studies to do some voluntary work in Ecuador for 12 months before going to Durham University to study social sciences.

She said: “I was not expecting these results at all. It was very stressful and I got so stressed out during the exam period, but I am so happy and it was worth it all in the end.”

Jacob Crofton, 18, attained an A* in mathematics and two A’s in physics and chemistry and will be heading to the University of Bristol to study mathematics.

He said: “I was hoping to get these results as I needed these to go to my first choice university. I’m very pleased I got these results, as a lot of hard work has gone into them.”

Another high performer was Kristian Beckers, 18 from Wootton Fitzpaine, gained an A* in mathematics, A’s in further maths and physics and a B in chemsitry. He will be going to the University of Bristol to study Chemical Physics.

Kristian said: “I am very pleased. I did better than I expected, and I’m pleased the hard work paid off.”

Emily Voysey, 18 couldn’t quite believe her results of an A* mathematics, A in further maths and B in chemistry, and she go to the University of Leeds to study maths.

She said: “I have done better than I needed to, and better than I thought, I can’t believe it. Now I am really looking forward to going to university.”

Emily was also accompanied by sister Tessa, 17, who still has another year left at Woodroffe, and Mother Su Cotton, who was understandably ecstatic.

Su said: “I am very proud of both my girls. I am very pleased for them, and I am also very excited for Emily to be heading off to university.”
