Mark Knopfler, the songwriter, singer, and lead guitarist for Dire Straits is at Bridport Arts Centre on Friday, September 27, at 1pm.
Since disbanding Dire Straits in 1993 Mark has continued to write, record and tour and is currently on a sell-out tour of Europe, including six performances in the Albert Hall.
Mark has also performed on work by other artists, such as Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton and Chet Atkins, and produced albums for artists such as Tina Turner, Randy Newman, and Bob Dylan.
Polly Gifford, Bridport Arts Centre director, will host the event and explore Mark’s rich and varied career as singer, songwriter and musician.
Mark will illustrate some of the points musically and will answer questions from the audience, in a rare opportunity to hear from a musical legend in such intimate surroundings.
Ms Gifford said: “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity of talking on stage to global rock star Mark Knopfler about song writing and his amazing career, in aid of our building fund.
“We’re very grateful to Mark for giving his time for this special fundraising event.”
Memberships and tickets are available form Bridport Arts Centre's Box Office. Tickets £30 bridport-arts.com or 01308 424204.
