RESEARCHER and author Eric Hoyt is to give a talk on his work with killer whales.
Erich Hoyt presents the talk Orca Journey: Healthy Seas for Whales - An Illustrated Talk at Bridport LSi on Tuesday, December 5 at 7.30pm.
Killer whales were originally considered too dangerous to approach in the wild but when Erich Hoyt and his colleagues spent seven summers in the 1970s and early 1980s living among these intelligent and playful creatures, they learned more than enough to dispel the killer whale myth.
Based on those summers of adventure and discovery, Hoyt wrote the book Orca: The Whale Called Killer in 1981.
Now in a greatly expanded fifth edition, it remains a revered classic updated with fresh insights into the life history of the largest member of the dolphin family.
Author Erich Hoyt visits the LSi to present an illustrated talk on his work with killer whales and how that has led to his mission to help create Marine Protected Areas across the globe.
