THE creator of Dorset's most famous biscuit has opened a new shop in Bridport this week.
Moores Biscuits has completed its relocation to St Andrews Road in Bridport following the closure of its 140-year-old store in Morcombelake.
The long-running family business, still operated by the Moores family and home to the famous 'Dorset Knob', offers a range of sweet biscuits, cakes and granola.
The Dorset Knob has seen seen a revival in popularity in recent years, thanks in part to the Dorset Knob throwing and eating competitions hosted annually.
A spokesman for Moores Biscuits said: "We are pleased to announce the opening of our new Bridport shop. We have been working hard to get our shop ready since the closure of our Morcombelake site at the end of last year.
"Our Bridport shop, though small, is perfectly formed and acts as a real showpiece for our entire range - including the famous Dorset Knob - along with a selection of local and unusual foods.
"Having closed our Morcombelake site with a heavy heart, we see this as an exciting development for Moores Biscuits both in the online world and with our new Bridport shop, and we look forward to welcoming customers in store."
Alongside the opening on the new shop, Moores is in the process of developing its website to offer a full online store experience. The bakery had previously been using a paper catalogue order system and is making the move online to move with the times.
Moores moved most of its manufacturing operations to St Andrews Road in Bridport in 2007 as bosses didn't believe the Morcombelake site was suitable for the 21st century. The shop had previously been operating since 1880. It was officially closed down in December 2020.
The Bridport shop is located at 202 St Andrews Road, DT6 3BW. The store is open Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm and has customer parking.
