COMPLAINT IN RESPECT OF CLLR M GAGE

WEST DORSET DISTRICT COUNCIL
STANDARDS COMMITTEE
NOTICE OF LOCAL DETERMINATION – CODE OF CONDUCT
COMPLAINT IN RESPECT OF COUNCILLOR M GAGE

A complaint was considered by the Council’s Standards Committee following local investigation for determination - Reference WDDC03.11.

The complaint alleged that Councillor M Gage of Lyme Regis Town Council had breached section 12(a) of the Town Council’s Code of Conduct on two counts by failing to withdraw from a meeting in which he had a personal and prejudicial interest on: (a) 28 June 2011 at an extraordinary meeting of Lyme Regis Town Council and (b) 20th July 2011 at a meeting of the Council’s Strategy and Policy Committee. The local investigation was carried out by R Greene, the Council’s Monitoring Officer on behalf of West Dorset District Council. His report was considered by the Standards Committee of the Council on 28th February 2012.

Having considered the report, the Standards Committee found that Cllr Gage had breached the council’s Code of Conduct in respect of the above meetings but decided to take no further action on the matter as Cllr Gage had received subsequent training and made a full apology in respect of his actions. A public notice to this effect is required to be published pursuant to the provisions of the Standards Committee (England) Regulations 2008.
