Report of Local Government Ombudsman
The Local Government Ombudsman has issued a report following her investigation of a complaint against West Dorset District Council. The complaint was that the council erroneously granted planning
permission for a wooden chalet on the sea front at West Bexington which is not in keeping with its surroundings.
The Ombudsman found that there had been maladministration on the part of West Dorset District Council, and this had caused injustice to the complainants. West Dorset District Council has agreed the
following remedy with the Ombudsman :
(i) To provide a formal written apology for the errors made and to give an explanation of the steps it has taken to avoid a repeat of these errors, to all those who directly
complained and to the Parish Council
(ii) To make a public statement; and
(iii) To reserve £3,000 towards countryside projects in the West Bexington area of the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with suitable projects to be agreed with the Parish
Council.
Copies of the report will be available for public inspection during normal office hours at West Dorset District Council, Stratton House, High West Street, Dorchester and at Sherborne Area Office,
The Manor House, Newland, Sherborne and Bridport Area Office, Mountfield, Rax Lane, Bridport for a period of three weeks starting on 26 October 2011. Anyone is entitled to take copies of the report
or extracts from it. Copies will be supplied at a reasonable charge.
