Temporary Closure of A3066 Beaminster Tunnel
DORSET COUNTY COUNCIL intend, not less than seven days from the date of this notice to make an Order under Section 14 [1] of the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984, as amended. All
vehicles will be prohibited from proceeding along the A3066 at Beaminster tunnel, a distance of approximately 400 metres. The Notice has been issued and is required by Dorset County Council, in
order to comply with Health and Safety Regulations, which require the provision of safe working areas and to minimise the likelihood of danger to Highway Users. It will come into operation on the
26 October 2011for a period of 3 days between 09.30hrs and 16.30hrs each day. But it will remain in force for 18 months and can be extended, with the approval of the Secretary of State for
Transport, if necessary.
This Order will enable Dorset County Council to carry out inspection and maintenance works.
ALTERNATIVE ROUTES BOTH OF WHICH WILL BE SIGN POSTED;
Light traffic, 7.5 Tonnes and below; from the southern end of the closure, at Beaminster tunnel, proceed southward along the A3066 to the junction with B3163 Whitcombe Road in
Beaminster.Turn left and continue northeastward out of Beaminster to the A356 crossroads at Toller Down Gate.Turn left onto the A356 and proceed northwestward to Misterton Cross in Somerset.At
Misterton Cross turn left onto the A3066 and proceed southward through Mosterton to Beaminster tunnel and the northern end of the closure.The reverse route applies.
Heavy traffic, above 7.5 Tonnes; from the southern end of the closure, at Beaminster tunnel proceed southward along the A3066 through Beaminster and Melplash into Bridport and the East Road
roundabout.Take the first exit off the roundabout and continue eastward out of Bridport along the A35 to Dorchester.At Monkeys Jump roundabout, take the first exit off the roundabout and proceed
northward along the A37 through Grimstone to the A356 turning to Maiden Newton.Turn left onto the A356 and continue northwestward through Maiden Newton and South Perrott to Misterton Cross in
Somerset.At Misterton Cross turn left onto the A3066 and proceed southward through Mosterton to Beaminster tunnel and the northern end of the closure.The reverse route applies.
