HIGHWAYS AGENCY - A35 TRUNK ROAD (CHARMOUTH BYPASS, DORSET)

HIGHWAYS AGENCY
A35 TRUNK ROAD (CHARMOUTH BYPASS, DORSET)
TEMPORARY PROHIBITION AND RESTRICTION OF TRAFFIC
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Secretary of State for Transport intends to make an Order on the A35 Trunk Road at Charmouth in the District of West Dorset in the County of Dorset, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, because works are proposed to be executed on that road.
The effect of the Order would be:
(a) to impose a 40 miles per hour speed limit on the A35 Trunk Road from a point 40 metres west of the centre of its junction with Berne Lane, Charmouth, to the eastern edge of the A3052 Charmouth Roundabout;
(b) to impose a 10 miles per hour speed limit overnight (between 8.00 pm and 6.00 am) while convoy working is taking place on the A35 Trunk Road over the same length as described at (a) above;
(c) to authorise the overnight closure (between 8.00 pm and 6.00 am) of the westbound carriageway of the A35 Trunk Road over the same length as described at (a) above.
These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors carry out carriageway repairs, resurfacing and maintenance works.
The restrictions would not apply to emergency service or special forces vehicles.
The Order would come into force on 16 September 2011 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months.
However, it is expected that the works would start on or after 19 September 2011 and be completed by 21 September 2011.
During the overnight closure described at (c) above, westbound traffic would be diverted from the A35 through Charmouth via Axminster Road to rejoin the A35 at the A3052 Charmouth Roundabout.
The temporary mandatory speed restrictions, carriageway closure, convoy working and diversion route would be clearly indicated by traffic signs throughout the works period and would only apply when traffic management measures are in place.
