DORSET COUNTY COUNCIL - Temporary Closure of Public Footpath

Temporary Closure of Public Footpath 8, Charmouth and Footpath 78 Stanton St Gabriel
DORSET COUNTY COUNCIL intend, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make an Order under Section 14 [1] of the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984, as amended. All foot passengers will be prohibited from proceeding along [A] Public Footpath 8, Charmouth and Footpath No78 Stanton St Gabriel, from grid ref. SY3674 9305, eastward for a distance of approximately 320 metres to grid ref. SY3708 9307. The order is needed in order to comply with Health and Safety Regulations, which require the provision of safe working areas and to minimise the likelihood of danger Highway Users. It will come into operation on the 4 September 2011 for a period of 52 weeks. But will remain in force for 12 months and can be extended, with the approval of the Secretary of State for Transport, if necessary.
This is an extension to an existing order that will end on the 3 September 2011.This continuation order is required in the interests of public safety due to land slippage and while negotiations are being held to divert the path onto a new route.
ALTERNATIVE ROUTE; The alternative route which will be sign posted is as follows. Leave the Coast path in Lower Sea Lane west of the footbridge over the River Char at grid ref. SY3652 9305 and turn northeast along a tarmac lane called River Way and at the end continue along a gravel footpath to reach Bridge Road. Carry on northwards up this road to the junction with the main village road,The Street. Turn eastwards along The Street to Newlands Bridge and fork right into Stonebarrow Lane. Continue up this narrow lane for nearly three quarters of a mile (1150 m). At the top of this lane a car park is reached. Immediately turn sharp right to find a four directional signpost. Take a grassy track south-westwards towards the coast to rejoin the Coast Path at grid ref. SY3708 9307.The reverse route applies.

Notice of Application for Consent from The Forestry Commission by way of Submission of an Environmental Statement
Environmental Impact Assessment (Forestry) (England and Wales) Regulations 1999 Notice Under Regulation 13
Proposed deforestation at Black Down Hill,Winterbourne Steepleton, Dorchester, Dorset.
Dorset County Council is applying for consent from the Forestry Commission for the deforestation of certain areas of forestry plantation to create open habitats of heathland and acid grassland. Under Regulation 10 of the Environmental Impact Assessment (Forestry) (England and Wales) Regulations 1999, an Environmental Statement has been prepared and submitted to the Forestry Commission.
Members of the public may inspect copies of the Environmental Statement, which outlines the long-term proposals for the forestry at Black Down, and possible effects on landscape character, ecology, archaeology, hydrology and soils, and key viewpoints and public access.

The Forestry Commissioners may decide either to grant consent subject to the standard conditions required by Regulation 18 of the EIA Regulations, or subject to such further conditions as they see fit or refuse consent.
