One of the main routes through Dorset will be closed overnight for two days.

On Monday, May 13 and Tuesday 14, the A35 will be closed between Bridport and Dorchester from 8pm to 6am each night.

This is part of ongoing work, improving and introducing new markings.

A diversion will be in place via the A3066, A356 and A37.

A spokesperson for National Highways said: "The programme of work started on March 18 between Axminster and Bridport, improving and introducing new road markings for drivers.

"These works will be continuing as we return to the A35 to finish improvements to the road surface on the approaches to Kingston Russell bends, located between Bridport and Dorchester. This will maintain safety and improve the journey for road users."

Pre-setting out of the signs for the road closure may commence from 7.30pm for the road to be closed from 8pm.

Access to properties with direct access to the A35 will be maintained for residents and businesses.

The spokesperson for National Highways added: "As we are unable to allow vehicles through the area where we’re working at the Kingston Russell bends, if you’re accessing properties to the west of Long Bredy Hut Lane, please approach from the Bridport direction. For east of Winterbourne Abbas, please approach from the Dorchester direction. If you have any questions about access, please approach our site team who will be happy to assist."

This work is subject to favourable weather conditions, for example, heavy rain may affect the progress.

During the day the road will be open as usual.
