LYME Regis manager Rob Thom was filled with pride after his side battled back from a one-goal deficit to beat Devon & Exeter Division Two promotion rivals Chulmleigh 2-1 at the Davey Fort on Saturday.
After struggling to get into the game against a physical Chulmleigh side the hosts were trailing at the break.
But they came out, after some encouraging words from Thom, to dominate the second half and win the game with goals from Dec Ellis and Joe Bond as the visitors tired.
“They couldn’t cope with our pace and tempo in the second half,” Thom explained. “We started slowly but the second half was all us and the only disappointing part was that we didn’t put the game to bed.
“I was very proud of them, it was a fantastic second-half performance.”
The battling win moved the Seasiders up to second in the table with five games to go and the manager is confident they can secure one of the three promotion spots.
“Henry’s Cronies have won the league so we know we need to keep winning to finish second.
“Teams have games in hand but I’d much rather be in our position.
“We’re not going to count our chickens and we cannot let our guard down but the type of football we’ve been playing over the past few weeks shows that we deserve to be where we are.”
Lyme Regis face two games in three days this weekend as they play Hemyock at home on Saturday (3pm) before a tough trip to Dawlish United on Bank Holiday Monday (3pm).
