MARK Knopfler, the songwriter, singer and lead guitarist for Dire Straits is at Bridport Arts Centre tonight.

Since disbanding Dire Straits in 1993 Mark has continued to write, record and tour and is currently on a tour of Europe, including six performances at the Albert Hall.

Polly Gifford, Bridport Arts Centre director, will host the event and explore Mark’s rich and varied career as singer, songwriter and musician.

Mark will illustrate some of the points musically and will answer questions from the audience, in a rare opportunity to hear from a musical legend in such intimate surroundings.

Gifford said: “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity of talking on stage to global rock star Mark Knopfler about song writing and his amazing career, in aid of our building fund.

“We’re very grateful to Mark for giving his time for this special fundraising event.”
