A fire broke out at a Dorset recycling centre this morning.
Two fire crews from Bridport, one from Charmouth and supporting officers were all called to Bridport Recycling Centre shortly after 5am following reports of a fire.
Main lines, hose reel jets, hay drags, breathing apparatus wearers and positive pressure ventilation fans were all deployed by firefighters to tackle the blaze.
On-site machinery was then used to spread out the waste so it could be dampened down.
Although the cause of the fire is not yet known, it is possible that it could have been started by discarded batteries or hot ashes.
Images captured inside the recycling centre show firefighters dampening down waste material with hoses.
A spokesperson for Bridport Fire Station said: “Both pumps from Bridport Fire Station along with Charmouth Fire Station and supporting officers were all mobilised to a commercial fire at Bridport Recycle Centre.
“Crews used main lines, hose reel jets, hay drags, breathing apparatus wearers and positive pressure ventilation fans to extinguish the fire.
“We then utilised the on-site machinery to spread out the waste so it could be dampened down.
“Although the cause of the fire is not known it is possible it was started by discarded batteries or hot ashes.
“Remember to recycle your batteries with your fortnightly recycling, putting them in a bag and leave them on top of your recycle bin and not inside and never put hot ashes in your bin.”
