A POPULAR dance group for young children is putting some fizz into West Dorset.
Four mums set up the Fizzy Boppers group in Maiden Newton earlier this year, offering high energy dance sessions for children aged up to five.
Due to the popularity of the group extra sessions have been added in Netherbury and a new weekly session has come to the Corn Exchange in Dorchester.
The mums also run an after-school club at Greenford Primary School in Maiden Newton, which attracts more than 20 children.
Julia Dodds, Georgie Easton and Kim Sibley, set up the group along with Cattistock resident Kelly Critchell with the aim of feeding children’s creative interest in music and dance as well as getting them active.
Julia said: “The group has gone from strength to strength, attracting at least 20 families a week to three locations we have set up now.”
The sessions are split between themed dances and action songs with children in Maiden Newton currently enjoying country and western while those in Netherbury and Dorchester develop a taste for Salsa.
The Dorchester sessions run from 10am to 10.45am on Wednesdays at the Corn Exchange Maiden Newton sessions are held from 10am to 11am on Thursdays. Netherbury Village Hall hosts sessions are from 9.30am to 10.30am on Mondays.
Sessions cost £3 per family with no need to book and people encouraged to turn up on the day.
The groups run every week including during school holidays but not on bank holidays.
