A new project offering textiles and woodwork workshops to young people will run until July.

Community Interest Company Ripple Workshop will be running practical workshops in woodwork, sewing, textiles, arts and crafts at Bridport Community Shed on Mountfield.

The workshops will be held every Tuesday from 12.30pm to 2.30pm.

The project was funded by Dorset Community Foundation and aims to support eighteen- to twenty-five-year-olds who find themselves in limbo between school, college, and employment.

Kate Brook, co-director of Ripple Workshop, said: "We are delighted to receive the funds from Dorset Community Foundation. For this project we'll be reaching out to young adults who for whatever reason are at a bit of a loose end and aim to enthuse them and provide a space where they can develop their own aspirations.

Ripple Workshop was started in October 2022 by Kate Brook and Eileen Haste and runs inclusive, participatory, creative, and practical projects with people in our community.

With this project, the team hope to gauge what the demand is for running activities for this age group.

Kate added: “This age group has a lot to offer. There’ll be a range of woodwork, arts and textile activities giving participants a whole range of skills to explore. Hopefully there'll be something for everyone to feel inspired about and so hopeful about their own future."

Workshops are free to attend and lunch is also provided. No previous experience is necessary.
